Public version
Updated October 6, 2026.
The public version puts BoardAsk on a school district’s own website. Parents and residents type a question in plain English and get a short answer with a link to the published page it came from. It is the same ask function the board and staff use. Residents do not sign in.
This page is for districts considering it. If you are a parent or resident with a question about your district, contact the district. This website does not search any district’s records.
What parents and residents can ask
- Who is the school board president?
- What does the district say about school closings and delays for weather?
- What is the district’s policy on student cell phones?
- What did the board approve in this year’s budget?
Each answer links to the page it came from, such as a handbook, a policy, a set of minutes, or the budget.
What they see
An ask box on the district website, or a page at its own web address. The answer is a short summary with a link to the published page. The cited page is the official record, not the answer text. If the published records do not answer a question, it should say so.
What it reads
Only what the district already publishes, and only the sources named in the district’s services agreement. No student records, no IEPs, no personnel files, and nothing from executive session. If the district has not published it, it is not in BoardAsk.
Why a district adds it
Families look for the same answers every year: closings and delays, the phone policy, the calendar, transportation. The answers are already posted, but they can be hard to find. The public version lets parents and residents find that information themselves, with the published page it came from.
How a district adds it
Start with the board and staff on the web app. Add the public version once they have used it and are comfortable with the answers. The district chooses how residents reach it: an ask box on pages of its own website, or a separate page at a web address of the district’s choosing. The website, board portal, and policy host stay as they are.
The public version is an add-on listed in the services agreement, with its price. The district orders it in writing.
